Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of pipe tripping including:

interpreting work requirements

correctly handling tubular and equipment

visually and physically checks lifting and running equipment

identifying, recording and reporting all faults

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the tripping of pipes that meets all of the required outcomes including:

working in a team and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

demonstrates completion of the tripping of pipes that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

preparing pill

putting trip tank on line and fill if applicable to equipment in use

releasing pipe from elevators

connecting lifting equipment to drill string and stabilise

operating air hoists if required

correctly operating a manual or automated racking system


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge the following of trip pipe:

legislative, site and manufacturer’s requirements and procedures

performing correct drilling operation

compliance with company and statutory safety guidelines, procedures and practices

safe operating procedures when operating equipment

hand signals

preparation of working knots if applicable

rig maintenance

types and characteristics of discharges including liquids, gases and solids

types and characteristics of materials including flammable, toxic, corrosive, explosive and radioactive

normal drilling operations

non-routine drilling operations

compliance with human resource management/rig management procedures
